Ah, that is a good point about Shiva. It does remove the problem I was worrying about.

Rivkah Greulich's art is wonderful, but I did also feel the same uneasiness you did. If Cass was criticized as being a stereotype, the "blond, white suburban cheerleader" seemed just as much as one. And a big part of the Bat-people is the urban setting.
Thanks. I'm not sure to what extent what I'm reading is the intent of the text, and to what extent I'm subverting it, but I think there's room for a reading of Batgirl as a strong female character.
